super 8 and 16mm film overlay pack
This pack of Super 8 and 16mm film overlays includes 10 high definition .mp4 files (1920 x 1080 50 mb/s). These files were created by scanning Super 8 and 16mm film directly frame-by-frame (2048 x 1536 resolution) using the RetroScan Universal film scanner.
How to use the overlays:
Import the file(s) you would like to use
Place the file into your timeline above the portion of clips you would like to have the film effect on.
Blend Mode, Opacity, and Curves:
The blend mode is what will blend the film overlay in with the video clips below it. It's best to experiment with these as you can get all different types of looks with different blend modes! Some blend modes I like to use the most with these: Screen, Soft Light, Overlay, Hard Light, Multiply.
Opacity: You can adjust the opacity if you want to create a more subtle look with the overlays.
Tip: When using the multiply blend mode, I like to bring the opacity of the overlay down so it doesn’t darken the finished look too much.
Curves: Another big adjustment I make with these overlays is playing around with the curves until I get the look I'm going for. The curves can adjust the lightness / darkness of the sprocket hole and the film leader. Feel free to play around with the shadows / highlights / curves / whites / blacks to give the final product the look you want.
